Dahi Papdi Chaat

About this Recipe...

Dahi Papdi Chaat is one of the popular street food of India and one of my favorite chaat. It is usually prepared with flat Papdis, boiled potato and chickpeas, green chutney, sweet chutney, some chatpata spices and as the name suggested so yogurt is one of the main ingredient of this chaat.
In India whenever I went to the chaat stall for eating Panipuri, this dahi Papdi chaat or dahi puri chaat is my second option of eating after having Panipuri. So those days are really beautiful and in India you will get street foods in every nukkad. There are some speciality of street food in every city, and the way of making it varies from place to place. In some place, you will find the street food extremely spicy and in other place you will get the same thing in sweet and tangy. So more or less it depends on people's taste how they want their food.
When I was in India, I never thought of making these street foods at home because I relishes the taste of those street food vendors. But here in USA you will not find these , so finally I decided that I gonna try it at my kitchen and here is the outcome. Now I love my homemade chaats a lot, so whenever I crave for it I make it my own and my husband tells that these are the best in taste, healthy and hygiene.

  3. Place the mashed potatoes and chickpeas on each papdis.
  4. Now add some yoghurt, green chutney and date-tamarind chutney on top of each Papdi.
  5. Add the chopped onions and sprinkle cumin powder, red chili powder and chaat masala.
  6. Again add some yoghurt and few drops of lime juice to it.
  7. Finally garnish it with chopped cilantro leaves and sev.
  8. Serve it immediately, otherwise it become soggy.
Notes:
There is no particular measurement for the chutneys and spices, use it according to your taste.
For sweetened yoghurt, I add some sugar in the yoghurt and mix it well.
For Papdis, I earlier made some puries for pani-puri and some of them came flat. So I used them here as Papdi. But you can get the same in Indian grocery stores.
